Medical Therapeutic Massage

Description

Avoid using pain killers and muscle relaxers that have harmful side effects. Medical Therapeutic Massage is an extremely effective alternative health care option that enhances the body's ability to heal itself. Excellent results for carpal tunnel, plantar facitis, and most chronic pain problems.

Medical Therapeutic Massage uses a comprehensive program of soft tissue manipulation techniques that balance the central nervous system (brain, spinal column and nerves). This Neuromuscular Therapy is based on neurological laws that explain how the central nervous system maintains homeostatic balance.

There are five principles to Neuromuscular Therapy:

1. Postural Distortion- Postural Distortion or muscular contraction occurs when there is an imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting from movement of the body off structural balance; the coronal- divides the body into front and rear sections, midsagital- divides the body into right and left halves or horizontal planes-divides the body into a superior (or upper) and an inferior (or lower) section. When the body tries to compensate in an effort maintain structural balance, muscle contraction, body distortion, and pain result. For example, lower limb-length inequality can cause a tilted pelvis, which usually results in a compensatory scoliosis that is maintained by sustained muscular effort.

2. Biomechanical Dysfunctions- Biomechanical Dysfunction is an imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns. Repetitive strain of certain soft tissue result in adapted movement patterns that become muscular habits and must be re-educated.

3. Trigger Points- Trigger Points occur when nerves fire impulses at a rapid speed into an area of the body other than that which has been traumatized. Because of trigger points, the cause of serious pain may often be far from the actual site of the pain. This, in turn, inhibits proper blood flow, causing ischemia (see below) which often leads to more pain and discomfort.

4. Nerve Compression/Entrapment- Nerve Compression and Entrapment is caused by pressure on a nerve by either; bone, cartilage or soft tissue. The role of the soft tissues in nerve compression is vital. Failure to treat the associated soft tissue is often treating the symptom without eliminating the cause of the pain. Nerve entrapment is the most common type of pain and always causes ischemia (see below). Ignored, it can produce associated trigger points (see above).

5. Ischemia- is a lack of blood supply to the soft tissues, which causes them to be very sensitive touch.

Philosophy and Comments

Medical Therapeutic Massage offers a variety of nationally approved techniques to allow your body to heal without pharmacological intervention, and sometimes, even without surgery. A prescription is not necessary for treatment; however, to have either workers’ compensation or automobile insurance cover the cost of your care, a prescription would be required.

Why Use Medical Massage Therapy?

Doctors offer pain medication to combat muscular pain. Hospitals have diagnostic equipment to pinpoint physical issues that may need surgery. Surgeons take care of structural injuries and internal organ issues with the last resort: surgery. Physical therapy helps people to recover from injury or surgery at the localize area only, not the whole body/mind system. Alternatively, Medical Therapeutic Massage offers assessment, physical manipulation, education, body/mind intervention, and structural analysis of all of the soft tissues that have been affected by a painful condition.

Benefits of Medical Massage Therapy

The clients who have greatly benefited from medical therapeutic massage include people who have been in car accidents, people with on-going pain from injuries or as a result of surgery, those with repetitive motion conditions, and patients who have been less than satisfied with allopathic intervention.

Some conditions are especially receptive to Medical Therapeutic Massage: carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and frozen shoulder. Also, people who have a secondary issue, such as a painful condition as well as a heart condition find massage therapy very beneficial.

We are all becoming more and more aware of the benefits of taking care of ourselves so that we can avoid costly medical intervention and sustain a healthy vibrant quality of life. Quick detection of potential health concerns, education, and prevention are all incorporated into a healing session especially directed for your condition.

Anatomy and Kinesiology (mechanics of motion) are both an integral part of the Medical Therapeutic Massage. This includes an assessment of:

• Muscles

• Tendons

• Fascia

• Lymph

• Joint mobility

• Nerves

• Structural analysis

• Body/Mind Connection

You can’t get any better than this!

Several years ago I suffered a brachial plexus injury in a MVA. Treatment consisted of physical therapy with my arm and working through the pain. I was doing well until 2-3 years ago when I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The pain was temporarily relieved with medication, but always returned. Instead of surgery I opted for alternative treatment. I chose acupuncture and felt it would "cure me". The pain was alleviated for a short amount of time, but the treatment became too painful as well as too costly. I expected the acupuncture experience to be the answer but it wasn't.
I had researched acupressure and during that time I received Dee's newsletter regarding CTS and myofascial pain. Her description was exactly what I was experiencing. I knew I had to find some relief, so I gave it a try. I just completed my third session and the pain has decreased from a level of 6 to 1 or 2.
I have been to several massage therapists in the past several years ( just for the fun of it) and have experienced many different techniques. Dee is unique. Her techniques are different from any that I have experienced in the past. She does a FULL 1 hour session - not 50 minutes like many places. The cost is more than 50% less than acupuncture.
The amazing thing is that I found her by accident. I noticed that she was on the list from my health insurance provider. I sent her an e-mail with some questions which she answered promptly. Several months went by before I considered making an appt. During that time my pain increased dramatically. Because of my inquiry to Dee, she sent me a newsletter. That made my decision to make an appt and give massage a try. It's so much more than massage. This has been a very positive experience. Linda Mozzachio

My name is Karen Klobassa, and this is a testimonial about the profound effects of Reiki. Reiki enhances the vibrational elements of the body therefore raising the body's integrity to it's highest capacity. The energy is subtle, but very much felt and therefore the celluar functioning is dramatically changed.

Due to pain in my left leg, I was having difficulty walking and climbing the steps. After many visits to the chiropractor, the problem was partially relieved. At this point, the Dr. recommended that I see a massage therapist to have some deep tissue work done. I had never had a massage and was a bit apprehensive about the procedure.

Dee put me at ease immediately. She encouraged communication so she could assure that I received the correct amount of deep tissue work. As a result I can walk with a brisk gait and climb the stairs without pain. I now have massages on a regular basis and feel more relaxed in body and mind.

I highly recommend adding this holistic procedure to your life as it results in an overall feeling of well-being. Judy Bennison

I have had been dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome for many months, and just thought that I had to live with it. I own my own construction/snow removal business, so I stay very busy and I don't let anything slow me down. I didn't want surgery, so I didn't go to the doctor. I have a brace, but it got in the way at work and I rarely used it at night, I just put up with the pain.

I received a discount flyer from a friend, and it said that Medical Massage Therapy works for CTS. I gave it a try, and in just 3 sessions, the frequent flair ups and night time pain have gone. I'd said that I'm 97% cured! What a relief. Now I look forward to a session once every three weeks for whole body preventative maintenance. Therapeutic massage takes care of any injuries or problems that have happened, and gets me primed for the weeks ahead. It also reduces my stress level. Robert Mirth

Massage - something that I thought was for over stressed old businessmen or for a pampered wife. It is a word with new meaning since I met Dee Wartenberg and was introduced to Medical Therapeutic Massage. It was as though someone had set us up to meet, but neither of us knew it.

The next thing I knew I was on her table! Three appointments later the terrible pain in my head was gone. I had an impact injury to my head about 2 years ago. I go to an excellent chiropractor, but that was not getting rid of the pain. I felt like the bones in my head was pushed out of place, but they were not releasing. I believe the massage relaxed the muscles and with the aid of the chiropractor everything just fell into place.

Now I know massage is not like getting your nails done. It is a serious wellness business and can have amazing health results. Elsie Heist

About a year and a half ago I was operated on my left foot due to a painful bunion. Within the past six weeks, a large callous developed on the bottom of my foot. I was in daily pain and in fear of having to undergo more surgery. One day a friend told me about Medical Therapeutic Massage. Following her advice, I made an appointment, and Dee began to do trigger point therapy for six sessions.

Now, the callous is gone, I have very little pain (only after an unusually long day, and I feel like I have a brand new foot. She also recommended a chiropractor, and I went and got inserts for my shoes. What a difference that made too! I'm so happy that I can walk barefoot again without any pain and I know that I don't need surgery again. Jeanne Lafrenz

Five years ago I was involved in a car accident. I went to the Emergency Room where I had X-Rays done on my neck and back. After reviewing the X-Rays the doctor told me that everything was normal, prescribed some muscle relaxers and sent me for two weeks of physical therapy. Since the night of the car accident I have had increasingly painful neck and head pain. The pain was constant and severe, but my doctor told me nothing could be done and that it would only get worse with age.

I had heard from several people how good Dee was and so finally I set up an appointment. Since my first session my pain level has decreased from an 8 to a 2. She set me up with a chiropractor who discovered from those same X-Rays done at the ER that I did sustain an injury to my skull and C-Spine. For the first time in five years I am almost pain free.
